Iceberg system: Beta-test sign ups
      2002/09/30 11:03 AM

Ahola, all... ive decided to put my money where my mouth is and try out a new system (Touched upon in my previous thread).

First of, this current thread is not and RPG. So, if anyone isnt interested in picking up a new RPG but wants to help the I-man... thanks Sign up bellow.

Basically, there isnt going to be much plot to this. It should last roughly two weeks, and its primary goal is to smoke out all the flaws in my system. To facilitate this, its most likely going to be messing around on a drift bouncing from fight to fight.

Okay, so what i need are some volunteers. All I'll need to know is your characters name, and species (Human, Nietzchean, Purple Pixie, Golden Pixie, Magog, Android or a Vedran).

The rules can be found here:
http://anzwers.org/free/ilphi/iceberg.htm
But please let me confirm what i say several times on the page: There is no need for you to get any of it, right now

Im sure being the bright bunch you are you can understand them pretty quickly, but that Document isnt quite complete. Any specific questions about the system i would be happy to answer, just post underneath.

Any questions at all.... I imagine that document isnt very coherant. Even if you think its really stupid, shoot! I want this game to be okay to everyone.

So, I need guini pigs. I dont need very many, indeed - at this stage few is probobly better.

So all i'll need is your characters name and species. If you decide you dont like the RPG after this, your of course under no-obligation to join the real RPG if it goes ahead (this is really to work out if the system is feasable at all!).

Okay-Dokey, thanks for your time

Hi Ilphi, as an old style gamer..you know we dinosaurs who sit around, with pen and paper and roll dice..chuckle!..

I would love to be a beta tester for this..I have only one problem...

at work I can not get emails(well,I can recieve then, but the company won't let me look at them...something about the large amounts of money they lost the last time an email with a virus got opened and shut the computers down company wide for about three days), and posting time is sparse, but I work nights and only Thurs thru Sunday..

At home, before work, and on my days off there are no problems..

So let me know...

That kind of posting is fine... Lord knows im hardly the most regular poster

So, yeah, if you'd just like to tell me your character I can pencil you in for the beta-test.

The E-mail thing wont be a problem. Basically, I will only use e-mail for two reasons:

- To tell you the outcome of an individual battle.

- OR if you want some proof that my dice-rolling is accurate. Basically, I wont hold it against anyone if they want some proof im not fixing it or something. Its a delicate matter, but I do promise to be impartial and roll fairly for all characters. If people would like a carbon copy of this, no matter if its an issue of trust or they just want a copy, i use the Ivory Online Dice roller:
http://www.irony.com/mailroll.html

So, if anyone wants to request a copy of the dice results, just post bellow and ill make sure you get one.

Just out of interest, did you take a look at the rules?

Ilphi, if you're thinking of doing this more than once here, is it okay if I lurk and see if I'd like it, and maybe drop by and ask questions about it in this thread? I might be interested in another RP--although I'm really not sure.

Sure, Sure!

Ask any questions you feel like in this thread, or by e-mail.

The RPG currently going on is my creation, but i would be honoured if someone else chose to implement the system in another RPG.

Still, early days yet... still lots of testing to be done.

I'm going to give RP another shot. I'm not really interested in the factional ones or stuff like that anymore, but this one seems interesting. I will give it a shot.

Rommie, check the link in Ilphi's post in the gameing thread. I had no problem getting there earlier in the day
I just tried from that thread, and got to Iceberg with no problem

I use MSN Messenger mostly now: ilphi@hotmail.com , but I also have ICQ (although not open as regually) - 51389955.

We also have a chat room thingy on IRC now, #icebergrpg. I can be found there, and Shal, Rommie and Mun have been known to pop in, so isnt a bad place to work out JP's if there is a breakdown of communication.

okay folks what I am talking about is a modified field of fire responsibility pattern.

Look at the group a being with in a giant X.

Spook is in the lead ( at least at this time) if real trouble crops up he should fall back to the center of the 'X', with out getting into Devon's way.

Devon should be moving along slightly behind Spook and either to the right or left as is his preference. When Spook falls back to the center of the 'X', Devon's field of fire is every thing in the top half of the 'X', that pie shaped wedge.

Spook would be responsible for picking off stragglers that get too close into Devons wedge.

Freddie and Tikku, you two are moving as a pair, but not too closely together, about two feet between you, on either side of the center point of the 'X'. lets us say that Freddie is on the left, and Tikku is on the right..

Freddie your field of fire on the 'X' would be be the left side pie wedge, primarily the top half of the wedge. ( I will be taking the lower half as well as the rear sector.)

Tikku your field of fire would be the right side of the 'X', primarily the top half of the wedge.

Stammel would cover the lower half of Tikku's wedge, and a bit of mine, mostly the right side of my wedge.

I know that this gives Devon a big slice of pie to cover, but he does have Spook to help. This also give me a big area, but my character has the training to handle it.

I am not trying to step on any ones toes here, please understand. Talisman is a take charge kind of person, and is just trying to keep the entire group safe and cover their vulneralbilities.

Please feel free to object,or do differently.

The tactic above is a modified version of the squad tactics used in Rainbow 6...the color/number system for field of fire/area security assignment. This is take from RL tactics btw.

If we get tied down, or are defending a static position, this also is useful because it alows us to get into a loose -circle the wagons, backs to each other formation that covers all sides... The formation can be very compact or expanded to cover more area.

It is also KISS (keep it simple stupid- old military acronym) and easy to remember.

It also helps our GM visualize where we are in our group.

I put together a quick properganda/promo ( ) video for the RPG.

http://www.games-realm.com/iceberg.mpg

Unless your sitting on top of a pipe or broadband connection i'd suggest sticking that into a download manager, because the stream will likely be slow and choppy.
