Hi all, Relax - No potshots at Mods. I have some UBB issues - eg. [ b ] This paragraph has a [ b ] bold [ / b ] in the middle [ / b ] ends up looking like This sucks - especially if you are quoting somebody who uses this courtesy convention of bolding the names of other posters. Is there a good way of fixing this without having to be careful enuff to go and manipulate the quoted info just right? I can come up with two that would be related to the board software - Why not change the quoted link to italicize quoted text instead of bolding it? Why not italicize poster's names? Any other suggestions? ps. I am sure that other people have asked this. What was the answer? |

I'm not sure, but I thought we did our own UBB when we did quotes. I, myself, if I were to use it, would do this [ i ] This quote has a [ b ]Bold[ /b ] statement. [ /i ] Hence... This quote has a Bold statement. See what I'm getting at? Rommie |

Bold is easier to read....you can always italicize bolds too you know .[This message has been edited by JadziaDax (edited April 30, 2002).] |

quote: When replying with quote to a post with bolding, you can delete the [ b ] from the beginning and the [ /b ] from the end of the quoted text.
quote: You might end up with nested tags for italics.
quote: Have the software use a different font, size, or color for text between quote tags. [This message has been edited by QuantumFlux (edited April 30, 2002).] |

I do the reverse of what Rommie69 does. Suppose I quoted my above line. Here's what I do.
quote: That's just me, I guess. ------------------
"It's not about being invulnerable. It's about being prepared-- for anything."

Nox, you might want to fix your UBB -- especially since you were trying to demonstrate what you tend to do. |

When I am replying to somebody, instead of post reply, I use the little icon right above the post to which I'm replying which automatically quotes the post. It puts quote tags around the post and a bold tag which encloses the entire post that is being quoted. Now, I am decent about snipping - if I have to snip the person's post (so that I'm replying to only the relevant parts), I do that. Quite a few people don't use many ubb tags in their post, so leaving the automatically put bold tags makes sense. But then some people have this convention of highlighting in bold a poster's name (which they are referring to in their post). These bold tags totally mess up the automatic bold tags. The solution that TZ seems to suggest is that I always edit the ubb - I don't see why I should *have* to. I mean the whole point of putting the automatic bold tags when using the "quote link" is defeated. Rommie69, when you see a poster's post, you can see 3 or 4 tiny icons at the top of each post (in a thread). One of them is the "quote link" (looks like a page with a red arrow going to the right) that I talk about above - you click that and you get a reply window with the poster's text already placed in quotes. Edit - Just realized that Rommie69 is a Vedran. You probably know more about this bbs and ubb than I do. I am leaving this in, in case anybody doesn't know what I'm talking about [This message has been edited by coolghoul (edited April 30, 2002).] |
