Well, this is it. After being a part time lurker, then later a part time poster on this BBS I find myself in a position where I will have to pull back. Earlier this year I was accepted into graduate school, and I am leaving tomorrow to the town that will be my residence for the next two years. Unfortunately, from what I am told a MBA program and free time can be mutually exclusive, so I am pulling back on all of my liesure activities until I find how academic life will effect me. I may be back, but I'd prefer not to make any commitments I can't honor. I have alot of fond memories of this BBS and the discussions within it. It really is a great place, with intelligent and fun discussions. Everyone, please recognize that you have found some place special and work hard to keep it that way. Personal request to Anarch -- can you post the equation which proves that 2 x 2 does not equal 4? I'd be happy to see it again. |

Hey, Michael, where are you going? I got my Master of Bullfeathers Always at Stanford, and I had time for *lots* of extra-curricular stuff. Of course, I didn't make the deans' list.... Anyway, good luck, and I hope you enjoy it! Kahty |

I got my MBA back in the 80's, and had lots of time left over for nonsense. The secret is, whenever you have a group project (which there's a lot of - group case studies, presentations, etc.) volunteer immediately to do the part you find the easiest. By being the first to volunteer, it makes it seem like you're doing a lot more work than you really are, you get all kinds of brownie points, and you get your choice of tasks. Good luck with it! |

Good luck to you. You should have plenty of time to peek in and post now and again. I am currently in my graduate program while I work full time and have a family, but here I am. Its doable. So, I hope to see you here once in a while at least.

Back for a few days at least. Thank you everyone for your well wishes. To answer a question or two ... I am presently in Ithaca, waiting for classes to start at Cornell. Unfortunately, the transition was not as smooth as I thought it would be. Ithaca is renowned for its cold weather. So, I packed plenty of warm winter clothes. What I had not anticipated, however, was the area being hit with a freak heat wave, pushing the temperature into the high 80's low 90's. Back when I was in DC, this type of situation was easy to handle. Stay indoors, when traveling outside wear plenty of cool clothes, etc. However: I have no air conditioning, because I am moving in I have to spend a great deal of time outdoors doing heavy lifting, and my summer clothes are sparse. It also turns out all of the air conditioning units in this town -- and one or two counties over -- are sold out, making things very interesting. Oh, and I have to wait around for the cable people. I've flipped my schedule, and am now doing most of the hard work at night, when it is a mere 70 degrees outside. Still, I am having fun. Everything seems new and interesting, and this is the first time in over a decade I have lived anywhere other than the South. |

Oooh, Cornell is good. And winter WILL be cold. **But, news flash, July and August are warm pretty much everywhere in the Northern Hemisphere!
You will have lots of distractions - you're only a short train ride away from the city! While your schoolwork might not keep you too busy to come to Slipstream, having NYC that nearby might! |

Good luck on getting settled in!
quote: As BunRab said, the entire NE is hot every summer - well, more than hot for many of us who have been having record-setting temperatures. In Toronto (north of the 49th parallel), we had our second-hottest July on record! The city hosted World Youth Days last week and I don't know how the 800,000 pilgrims got through the 3-hour Papal mass last Sunday at 32C/90+F temperatures - we hid in the house. I don't think you'll really have to worry about genuinue cold until late October. ------------------ |
