Soggy Bottom Boys win Album of the Year!
      2002/02/28 10:23 AM

Over Christmas my family watched the DVD for O Brother, Where Are Thou? This was a little movie that didn't get much attention when it was released last summer. George Clooney's odd remake of The Odyssey included a soundtrack of folk music that got a grammy nomination.

In the surprise upset at the Grammy's, the album beat U2 and Alicia Keys for Album of the Year! This is so funny because when we watched the movie we thought it was the weirdest thing we'd ever seen. Who'd have thought they'd be the star of the Grammys?

Congratulations to the Soggy Bottom Boys, that there's a hit!

LOVED the movie (those Coen brothers!), and bought the soundtrack right after watching the movie. I cheered when the Soggy Bottom Boys won the Grammy!

Yeah, me too! They were so silly they deserved to win.

How come this doesn't surprise me? In the place I work at that has actual people involved, that album is one of the top sellers.

My mother seems to think that she has only one CD in her entire collection... It happens to be the soundtrack of O Brother Where Art Thou, I think its actually very good. Although, it is not good a 6:00am when my mom likes to play the CD the loudest and repeated endlessly.

LOL, Lil.

There's not a real band named that. In the movie, George Clooney and his friends are wearing wet pants when they walk into a recording studio to cut a record. Hence, they are the soggy bottom boys.

Go rent it! John Goodman is great as the Cyclops. Then there's the Sirens, and the wife of Ulysses, so much more...

And boy is the Nashville music press crowing today!! About many of the wins with Nashville connections, especially OBWAT!!. Not to mention getting some major digs in at country radio (and the Country Radio Seminar is in town this week) about the fact that nothing that won was a radio hit or even got any decent airplay! Oh, yes, Nashville music makers were happy last night and today.

I haven't heard the soundtrack myself, but, if there were one album I would have picked to win other than Dylan ( ), it would be that one. The big song from that one- Man of Constant Sorrow- Dylan covered it on his first album 40 years ago... Better that one than any of that other "music". IMHO.

(Though Dylan should have won it. )

Oh ev'ry foe that ever I faced, the cause was there before we came.
And ev'ry cause that ever I fought, I fought it full without regret or shame.
But the dark does die, as the curtain is drawn and somebody's eyes
Must meet the dawn. And if I see the day, I'd only have to stay,
So I'll bid farewell in the night and be gone.
