A Sondheim Song Cycle (Part II)

[I was going to hold off until I'd finished the third one, but I think that the therapeutic value of another filk outweighs the damage done to my artistic integrity.]] Ladies and gentlemen of the audience, two new songs have appeared from that most legendary of future spectacles, High Guard -- The Musical! and I felt it imperative to bring them before you as soon as possible. Interestingly, they both concern characters who, though the consequences of their actions be huge, yet their parts be tiny. I give you forthwith: The Minor Characters' Solos!

Rummaging through his lair, Harper and Trance find Hasturi's diary. As they read one of the more lucid passages, the ghost of Hasturi comes forth to re-enact that wonderful day:
FINISHING THE MAP (Finishing the Hat, Sunday in the Park with George)
Finishing the map, How you have to finish the map, How you to have find a back door To Tarn-Vedra So you'll have a true map. Planning in your dreams, As they try invading your dreams; When you hear those voices that come Through the slipstream Cry How they'll plot their mad schemes, How they'd love you to scream. And then you're always turning down the wrong path Towards Brandenburg Tor Or just somewhere in space, And then you're fleeing from some deity's wrath And his hordes that just won't give up chasing You from his most holy place, So you flee back to your base, Marking out your map, Working on your map, Entering the world of the map, Reaching through the chart of the map Into slipstream Falling into the gap. Studying the light, Looking at the pattern of light, Burning through the night within sight of Tarn-Vedra, Then you see -- And then suddenly you see -- And when the path before you opens wide You can say to yourself "So, I knew what I knew!" And though people might not want you inside Then, however they try, There's a part of you living in your dreams Quieting the screams Finishing the map... Working on the map... Finishing the map... Look, I made a map... A true and perfect map...

As news of the Sabra-Jaguar alliance reaches Cestus Martialis, a furious Fleet Marshall Cuchulain Nez Pierce summons his armies:
BRING ME MY PRIDE (Bring me my bride, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum)
<Lieutenant, spoken>: Hail, Fleet Marshall Cuchulain! Welcome to Cestus Martialis. Your pride awaits you! <Cuchulain>
My pride… My pride, my pride, bring me my pride! We'll butcher Bolivar and his new bride! Be strong! Be brave! We'll dig for them a grave, There are Jags to torture, Sabras to hurt and kludges to enslave!
<Chorus>
Look at those arms Look at that gun, Look at that…
<Cuchulain>
Every fight I have won! I have earned Number One! My pride, my pride, I've come to lead my pride, Our fleet will crush them both there side by side! Let all enjoy the forces we employ: There are Alphas to slaughter, Betas to kill and Enkindu to destroy!
<Chorus>
Hear his great voice, pompous and loud! Look at his wives over there in a crowd!
<Cuchulain>
Ayn Rand would be proud! I, Marshall Cuchulain, I, slaughterer of thousands, I, attacker of the Than, Oppressor of all Man, The bane of Charlemagne, <- [Ed note: Thick fake accent, to rhyme]
The scourge of Kodiak, Will summon the attack! I, Marshall Cuchulain, [Chorus: With guns and with knives!] I, paragon of virtue, [He always survives!] I, in games, the first to cheat; In love, full of deceit; In vict'ry most complete; In battle, the most wild; I am Nietzsche's child!
<Chorus>
Let praises ring! Him we adore! He is our king and he'll bring Drago-Kazov to war!
<Lieutenant>
Smiting our foes, he will string them up covered in gore! And more!
<Cuchulain>
My pride, my pride, come to bring to me my pride, With them I shall the galaxy bestride! I have no fear! The time is drawing near! There are battles to be raging, Wars we should be waging, Cities to burn and planets to be fried! BRING ME MY PRIDE!
