NEW CHALLANGE!!
      #78641 - 2001/12/31 11:41 PM

Well, I was talking to a friend of mine and remembered this old Star Trek Voyager challange that I had seen. It was to write a fic had any number of characters talking and in the dialogue, they had to use all the names of all the episodes shown up to that point in time. So, here's my challange:
Write an Andromeda story where the names of every ep shown to date are used in the dialogue somewhere. They have to be used in order of the eps were aired. Have fun!
Cassie.
Name and order of eps:
Under The Night *
An Affirming Flame *
To Loose The Fateful Lightning *
D Minus Zero *
Double Helix *
Angel Dark, Demon Bright *
The Ties That Blind *
Banks of the Lethe *
A Rose In The Ashes *
All Great Neptune's Ocean *
The Pearls That Were His Eyes *
The Mathematics Of Tears *
Music Of A Distant Drum *
Harper 2.0 *
Forced Perspective *
Sum Of Its Parts *
Fear And Loathing In The Milky Way *
Devil Take The Hindmost *
The Honey Offering *
Star-Crossed *
It Makes A Lovely Light *
...Its Hour Come Round At Last *
The Widening Gyre *
Exit Strategies *
A Heart For Falsehood Framed *
Pitiless As The Sun *
Last Call At The Broken Hammer *
All Too Human *
Una Salus Victus *
Home Fires *
Into The Labyrinth *

Beka looked up at the stars. "Well, here we are: Under the night. Did I ever mention how much I hate planets?"

Harper groaned, "Yeah."

"Luckily, we have an affirming flame here," Rommie lifted the torch.

"Affirming? Do you remember how we got that torch?" Beka asked.

"Yes," Rev answered slowly, "But when the divine wishes to loose the fateful lightning, it isn't our place to question it."

"Need I remind you that this is D Minus Zero?" Tyr walked over. "It is the first day of hostilities with an unknown enemy, and you're acting as though we're on vacation."

"Come on Tyr," Beka prodded. "I think we lost them. Why not go down into the village and talk to some of the Neitzchian women? You might even get that double helix you've been wanting."

"I'll not go near that village," Tyr looked apprehensively in the direction of the small Neitzchian town. "My people have a saying: Angel dark, demon bright. While that place may look inviting, our enemies could be waiting there."

"Ya know Tyr, the whole hyper-aware, paranoid Neitzchian thing is getting on my nerves," Beka responded.

"The ties that blind," Trance said as she hopped down from the Maru.

"What?" Tyr looked over at her.

"Sometimes, you're so concerned with your past that you miss out on a lot."

"Now, if everyone is finished berating me for my culture, I must continue my patrols," Tyr stated, and walked off into the nearby forest.

"Hmmm. He still seems a bit reluctant to join in friendly discourse," Rev mused.

"I dunno," Beka looked wistful. "He kinda reminds me of that guy I met on the banks of the lethe."

Harper groaned again, "Oh man, not him."

Beka smiled, "Now he was a rose in the ashes. He wasn't just a hunk, he had a mind like all great Neptune's ocean. And the pearls that were his eyes..."

"Look out! She's waxing poetic again."

"Remember when you asked me about the mathematics of tears?" Beka looked over at Rommie, who was working on top of the Maru. "I think I understand now."

"Well, I--" Rommie suddenly stopped.

"What is it Rommie?" Trance looked at her, concerned.

"I think I hear something. It sounds like the music of a distant drum."

Harper quickly picked up listening device from his pack, and attached it to his dataport, "Don't worry. The Harper 2.0'll find out what it is."

"Well?" Beka asked after a long wait.

"Shhh, they're playing Forced Perspective," Harper responded.

"Huh?" Trance asked.

Beka looked annoyed, "It's Harper's favorite song."

"This just isn't working!" Rommie announced as she hopped down from her pirch on the Maru, "I don't think I'll be able to fix it."

"Don't feel bad," Beka answered, "Sometimes the Maru is just more than the sum of its parts. Let me take a look at it."

Suddenly, Tyr came running through the woods, "They've discovered our position. We have to find shelter."

Harper tuned his listening device to monitor the surrounding trees. Finally, he pointed off to the east, "Here they come."

"They claim to be responsible for all fear and loathing in the milky way," Tyr watched the underbrush expectantly as their pursuers came closer. "I hope they look sufficiently menacing, or I will be rather dissapointed."

"Let's run for it!" Harper urged.

"And devil take the hindmost?" Beka crossed her arms. "I don't think so."

"What about the honey offering?" Trance asked as she pulled a jar from her bag.

"Perfect," Beka took a jar from her own pack and started to pour the honey onto the ground near the Maru. The rest of them caught on, and followed suit.

When they were finished, they got into the Maru and waited. After a few moments, a group of aliens burst through the foliage and started to disperse around the camp, their weapons at the ready. Meanwhile, another came through and started trying to burn a hole through the Maru's hull with a plasma torch.

"Get away from my ship," Beka swore under her breath as she watched from the Maru's view screen.

"Kalderans," Tyr muttered.

Before long however, Trance's plan came into effect. Tiny lights began to appear in the area around the camp. The Kalderans moved in closer together. After a moment, the Vrekian Star Beasts, so named for the tiny bioelectric light between their eyes, came into the light around the Maru. Their metallic silver scales glinted as they slowly made their way toward the Kalderans.

"They say the scales on Vrekian Star Beasts are so strong, that not even Guass Guns can harm them," Rev said.

Suddenly, the Kalderans broke and charged off through the woods. The powerful animals followed them, roaring and blinking their lights.

"I guess you could say the Kalderans are a little star crossed," Harper joked.

"But you've gotta admit, it makes a lovely light," Beka laughed.

"Quickly," Tyr began to get out of the Maru. "We have to remove the honey before we attract more of them, then we have to move camp."

"We aren't leaving my ship," Beka insisted.

"The Maru is a liability. We cannot protect your vessel if we have all been killed."

Rev looked up at the ship that had been his home for a long time, prior to his arrival on the Andromeda, "...It's hour come round at last? I had not expected to see this day."

"Don't worry Rev, we aren't leaving my ship."

Rommie set her force lance to plasma, and began to burn up the honey that was still on the ground, "Maybe we don't have to. Follow me."

"What are you planning?" Tyr asked.

"You'll see," Rommie smiled devilishly.

Soon, they came to a massive opening in the ground.

"We're here," Rommie announced, "I give you: The widening gyre."

"We need exit strategies, not pits," Tyr looked annoyed.

"If we put the Maru inside, the Kalderans will never find it. Then, when Dylan shows up with my ship self, we can just lift it out."

"How do we get it in there?" Beka asked, "The AG units are still fried."

Rommie frowned, "Harper! You were supposed to fix them."

"I was gonna do it after lunch," Harper shrugged.

"Wonderful," Tyr looked into the hole. "At least we won't be forced to dig our own graves. I'm sure this will suffice."

"Don't worry," It was Harper's turn to look smug, "Lucky for you guys, I've got a heart for falsehood framed."

"Spit it out, boy," Tyr growled.

"As everyone knows, Kalderans are go into a feeding frenzy whenever they smell a Bregan Heart. Well, last time we were at Georgia Drift, I picked one up as a souvinir. We'll just hang it up over the hole, and the Kalderans'll fall in trying to get it."

"A tiger trap," Rev noted. "Harper, you are as pitiless as the sun."

"Hey, I try," Harper grinned.

Trance went back over to the Maru, and the Kalderans were already there trying to get in. She shouted, causing them to chase her into the woods.

They lost track of her as they came to another clearing, this time with a large hole in the center.

"Last call at the broken hammer!" Beka shouted as she opened the air-tight frame containing the heart. The eyes of the Kalderans widened when the smelled it. In seconds, they were charging blindly and jumping at the hypnotic food. Soon, they were all trapped in the hole.

"All too human," Tyr shook his head as he looked at them in the massive sink hole. "Inferior."

"You say that now, but more will be coming," Rommie looked up at the night sky.

"Una salus victus," Tyr began. "We have to hide until the Andromedea returns. We can cover the hole and the Maru with brush, and remain deep in the caves to the west. I doubt the remaining Kalderans will be able to find us before Dylan reaches the planet."

The quickly gathered plants and pine tree limbs to camoflauge the Maru and the trapped Kalderans, then marched off toward the eastern hills. A massive cave network wound its way through the hills, which would allow them to remain undiscovered for years if they needed to.

"Boy, I hope Dylan keeps those home fires burning," Beka looked at the dark cave entrance. "We could be in there for a long time."

"I am certain that Dylan will be able to locate us soon," Rev tried to reassure the rest of them. "Now, we must hurry. Everyone, into the labyrinth."
