Crew To Bond More Next Season, Says Sorbo

After two years of adjustment, season three will see the Andromeda crew start to work together as a team, according to series star and executive producer Kevin Sorbo (Dylan Hunt).

"The crew will bond together more," Sorbo told Ian Spelling in issue 96 of DreamWatch. "You're still going to have conflict because there's always conflict, even in a family that loves each other. It's not like we're going to be one big, loving family in that sense but we will see Beka and Tyr rebelling less against Hunt. I think you'll see that there will be much more of a team effort as these guys go out there and try to help people who want their help."

As he continues to adapt to his new environment, Dylan Hunt will embrace the female sex - literally. "Dylan was this Navy SEAL, a military guy, and he's lost a lot of that attitude. He's loosened up a little and he'll loosen up a little more. There will be more love interests in his life. If he finds a woman attractive, he's going to go for it, he's not going to play this stoic by-the-numbers kind of guy. He's going to be a little more unpredictable, a little more casual with the crew."

Sorbo hinted at changes in the commander's attitude to Andromeda's resident Nietzschean, Tyr Anasazi. "The whole Tyr/Hunt relationship is going to become more like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, or maybe more Lethal Weapon-like. They're going to work more as a team and play off each other more and have a kind of smart-ass camaraderie."

There will also be less resistance from the feisty Beka Valentine. "Beka will become a little more stable in terms of her place on the ship," Sorbo said. "She's going to accept being first officer instead of fighting it and saying she should be captain."

One character who changed dramatically last year was Trance Gemini, who switched places with her future self in 'Ouroboros.' Sorbo said the production team have been refining the character's look for season three.

"We've done another makeover on Trance in terms of her make-up, Laura [Bertram] will be happier with where we're taking Trance. She won't be ditzy again, but you'll see more of the character's charm that you saw in the first season."

Overall, the actor couldn't be happier about what lies ahead. "I think the third season is going to be great and [...] I think we're on our way to at least five years of Andromeda."

In IHCRAL, when Dylan told Beka and Tyr, who wanted to abandon ship, "You do what you want; I'm staying," I took that as a sign that the bonds between these characters had strengthed from earlier in the season, such as in DMZ, when Beka and Tyr threatened to leave; I don't think such a scene would have been plausible by the end of S1. So it sounds as if they're continuing with something that's been there all along.

I agree with you MikeJoe. Actually I really didn't find Kevin's interview to be that upsetting. I don't have a problem with him loosening up a bit, I mean his form of the military is actually gone. I have no clue what the new HG is like. I don't think he has any desire to go planet side and be an instructor or run things from the ground. His ship is HIS world, his home, he isn't leaving her. So, he needs to find a way to continue on using his military background, while loosening up to fit in better with his new circumstances, his new crew, this new time.

I'm okay with how it sounds. As far as the bonds between the crew, the family thing, I've already seen that. It only makes sense. There are only 6 of them, they live together, work together, they are together probably more than most real families, so I would expect that type of relationship to build. I'd be worried if it didn't.
