Andromeda executive producer Alan Eastman criticised the Star Trek Franchise recently, reaffirming the commitment that Andromeda shows the "adventure and swashbuckling action" in Gene Roddenberry's vision. "I think the Star Trek franchise has become too formula and safe," he told the Canadian National Post. "They don't want to try anything new. They're basically doing the same thing over and over." Eastman is a veteran director of six episodes of Voyager and Deep Space Nine, but thought that Andromeda offers viewers something new. He was also full of praise for Andromeda's lead actor Kevin Sorbo. "Kevin will come to be recognised as one of the best starship captains on TV," he said. Sorbo was also interviewed by the newspaper, and commented on the long-distance moves his career has required. "I keep getting American TV shows, but I just can't do them in America!" the 42 year-old former Hercules star said. "Here, at least [in British Columbia], I feel like it is easy for me to get back home. It's a two-hour flight, and I am still in the same time zone." Sorbo considered his home to be in Nevada. Filming Hercules for seven years required him to relocate to New Zealand. "New Zealand was at the other end of the world," he said. After Andromeda, Sorbo's plans lie in a different direction of television. He wants to be in a sitcom. "I would like to make it a full-time thing. If you're lucky enough to get in a good sitcom, you have got it made. It's an easy workweek," he said. Sorbo has appeared in several popular sitcoms, including Dharma and Greg. "You have that rehearsal Monday through Thursday and then Friday you get in front of a live audience. It's just a buzz," he commented. "You're on pins and needles. The nervous energy is unbelievable. You've rehearsed but still you haven't put it up on its legs in front of a live audience. It's a great feeling. I love it." You can read more from Kevin Sorbo, including his thoughts about Hercules and getting involved with Andromeda, in the full interview at the National Post web site.
