Hello World!

After over a month of agonising while everyone else on the internet had already seen the Andromeda pilot, I finally saw 'Under The Night' and 'An Affirming Flame' this weekend! I had a tape of the show a couple of weeks ago already (actually I had two - one in NTSC-format and one in PAL-format taped using Long Play), but neither of those tapes I could play on my Stone Age VCR. Fortunately my parents bought a new VCR a couple of weeks ago which is able to play every file format under the sun, but they hadn't figured out how to correctly operate it yet, so I offered to make the video channel function if I could use it to transfer one of the tapes to a regular format. So on Saturday I took my own VCR cross-country to my parents, first strapped on my bike's luggage carrier and then in the train, but in the late evening I finally had a working copy of the Andromeda pilot episode. I hope getting to see the episodes in the future won't continue to be nearly as big an adventure as the actual show itself.

Meanwhile, on the actual site here things have been a bit less exciting than in the previous weeks. The amount of news seems to have slowed down a bit now that the pre-premiere hype is over, but on the bright side a lot of the news that we did have was pretty interesting - especially the news about Andromeda's great ratings performance was of course very welcome. Next week there should again be the usual set of episode reviews, and we'll probably be posting our interview with 'To Loose The Fateful Lightning' star Richard De Klerk. Questions can still be submitted for a short while - I'll be sending off the questions this afternoon.

On TV This Week

Airing this week in the United States and in Canada is 'Double Helix', the fifth episode of the season. In most markets, the episode will be shown either on Saturday or on Sunday, though in some areas it might also air earlier in the week, or in rare cases it might even have aired this past weekend already. Full US listings can be found here on the official site, while the Canadian listings can be found here.

'Double Helix' is the second episode written by the writing team of Matt Kiene and Joe Reinkemeyer, and was directed by Michael Rohl. Here's how Tribune describes the episode:

Captain Dylan Hunt must save the Andromeda from the Nietzcheans, who are trying to persuade Tyr to help them destroy the ship and rebuild his Nietzchean life. His new life would include a wife to carry on his ancestry.

More information on 'Double Helix' can be found here in the Episode Guide.

Meanwhile, tonight at 8:00pm Sky One in the United Kingdom will be airing 'D Minus Zero'. The episode will also be repeated on Saturday.

Thanks for voting! Now that the poll results are in, we've also put up the average episode rating in the Episode Guide, and unfortunately the news isn't very good. With an average rating of 6.8 from the poll results and an average grade of a 5 from the regular episode reviewers, the overall episode rating for 'To Loose The Fateful Lightning' is a 5.9, substantially lower than what both pilot episodes scored.

Hopefully last week's episode, 'D Minus Zero' will achieve somewhat higher ratings. Let us know what you thought here.

New Commonwealth Sites

As last week, the number of sites in our Andromeda web directory is still growing rapidly, with about half a dozen sites added over the past week. Here are three of those new sites:

  • The Unofficial Lisa Ryder Fan Club is a fan group for Lisa Ryder (Beka Valentine), apparently existing since her days on 'Knight Rider'. The site has a biography, picture galleries, articles on Ryder and more.

  • The Totally Unofficial Steve Bacic Homepage, by the creator of the unofficial site for Brent Stait, has all sorts of information on the actor who portrayed Gaheris Rhade in the pilot. The site has image galleries, the first Rhade fanfic story, links and more.

  • Andromeda Station is a well-designed site with general information on the show, including an episode guide, news headlines, a small forum and soon a fanfic section.

More sites that were added over the past week can be found in the What's New section. To find any other Andromeda sites, please head on over to the main page of the All Sites Commonwealth itself, now containing 131 links to Andromeda resources. If you want to add your own site to the listing, please click here.

  • I think that might be 'existing since her days on "Forever Knight"' rather than "Knight Rider"? Or did I miss the scenes with her and KITT?
