On yesterday's outage
      #400 - 2001/12/12 06:49 PM

As I'm sure you all noticed, the BBS and all other sites were inaccessible for a long period of time yesterday.

What happened yesterday was that, after talking with the server hosting company, it was decided that a complete reinstall of the server was necessary. Unfortunately, as we also still had to back up some of the data we didn't have time to inform you about this in advance.

I think I've restored all the Star Trek and Andromeda sites on the server now, and am currently working on restoring the email addresses of the current moderators. If you find anything on the site that is not yet working, please post about it in this thread and we'll be able to correct it.

The good news is that restoring all the data went surprisingly painless - that at least is one worry less for when we are eventually able to move to a new server sometime in the future.

Thank you.

Um, and Christian? I came back after posting my last message to this thread and tried the ad link which is not working. If you are paid based on successful clickthroughs, you might want to fix the link. (And are you solvent? That is to say, not my biz generally but have you the resources to keep this great site going with the ads and stuff? Just wondering since we like it so much. Not to be pushy.).

Thanks again,
Kathy

The only thing I've noticed is that the Headlines and Episode Guide on the main page are missing an update that shows up on the right hand side of the bbs pages

ie. over here ------------->

Other than that, thank you for providing us with this site.

Heh, and here I am, misreading the topic title as "On yesterday's outrage". (insert jaw-drop here).

Thanks for keeping us informed, Christian.

Good... the question, though, is how much farther in the future will that be?

The view count of the posts was something I found very useful.

Could we have it back, pretty please...

And thanks for all your hard work.

Unfortunately, the server hath not enough power to initiate searches at this time. I, also, wish that it were enabled, but, alas, this simply is not to be at this time.

Then perhaps someone could hang the cyber-equivalent of an out-of-order-sign on it? At least everbody would know then that it won't work.
