On the recent bans

Dear members,

As you will have noticed, we recently took the unusual step of disabling the accounts of some people who registered at the Slipstream BBS. This has of course caused quite a bit of worry, with people wondering whether their account or those of their friends would be disabled as well. Let me assure you all that won't be happening - this was an isolated case involving a group of members from outside the Slipstream community, and we hope we won't have to repeat actions like this.

Over at the Trek BBS, the Slipstream BBS's sister board, we've had severe problems with a persistent group of trouble-makers. Over the course of several months, these trolls used ever further-going tactics to disturb the Trek BBS - some of the wonderful incidents we've seen at the Trek BBS included the posting of hardcore pornographic pictures, the creation of dozens of alternate identies who each spammed the BBS to death, and the leaking of all sorts of private material. In the end we were forced to take several unfortunate actions, culminating in the ban of all these people.

After this ban, they apparently decided they needed to find a new place to cause trouble, and since the Slipstream BBS is operated partly by the same people as the Trek BBS they apparently decided this would be their next target. Obviously, we weren't going to allow that. Once it became clear these people and those who associate with them were coming over to the Slipstream just to interfere with the community and get back at the administration over Trek BBS issues, we went ahead and banned those people - rather than wait until they'd also managed to ruin much of the Slipstream atmosphere over the next few months.
