How many drop ships?

Hi. Maybe someone can answer this for me. I have read here that an XMC would normally have about 800 Lancers. How many drop ships and assault pods does an XMC carry? Enough to land all Lancers at once?

This information should be located somewhere on All-Systems.org which can be found via the link at Andromedatv.com.

I tried there first. They have an entry for the Ung Tae drop ships, but it doesn't say how many are normally carried on Andromeda. In fact, it was only here at the BBS where someone said that Andromeda would normally carry 800 Lancers.

So we have a semi-official number of 800 Lancers. We know there are assault pods, because we saw them used once by Tyr. We know there are drop ships because they are listed at allsystems.org. But we don't know how many.

Actually, it has been stated on the show that there were 800 Lancers on the Andromeda (Home Fires, IIRC, or perhaps USV).

Also, I think only the DSC carries Ung Taes.

So how does an XMC get Lancers down to the surface? One by one in assault pods?

Maybe, but I think the primary role for the Lancers on an XMC is defensive. They are analogous to the contingent of U.S. Marines stationed on board a Nimitz-class Aircraft Carrier. They're mainly there to repel boarders and defend the ship rather than engage in large-scale offensive operations.

As BR48 alludes to, planetary assaults would've been more the responsibility of the Drop Ship Carriers, not the XMCs.
